For the 2020 edition of the _Sons d’Hiver_ festival, Vijay Iyer and his quartet present a dialogue between classical music, Indian sonorities, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Accompanied by Yosvany Terry (saxophone/percussion), Ganavya Doraiswamy (vocals/instruments), and Rajna Swaminathan (mridangam – a traditional Indian percussion instrument), they explore a rich and intricate fusion of sounds.
After earning a degree in mathematics and physics from Yale University, followed by a master’s in physics and a PhD in technology and the arts from the University of Berkeley, the Indian-American pianist crossed paths with Steve Coleman and joined his band _The Mystic Rhythm & Society_ for a tour. He then fully committed to music, releasing his debut album, _Memorophilia_, in 1996.
