The veil has lifted: since late 2016, the electro-soul artist long known under the pseudonym of Chet Faker has been producing music under his real name of Nick Murphy.
The Australian confirmed this decision last year by releasing a new EP Missing Link, his first under his birth name. Far from just an insignificant whim, this change of title reflects an in-depth overhaul of his music. No more hiding behind concepts or special effects: ‘2017 was a year of risk and exploration’, as he summarised in a January message on Facebook, also posting a short film for his magnificent song Missing Link. It remains to be seen what new wonders he will unfurl on his next album and onstage to articulate his development.
