It’s a real musical fireworks display that is taking shape this July 14: the festive celebration of Afro-Cuban music by Chucho Valdés and Archie Shepp. Master of the piano (the Cuban Mozart according to some) marked by the joint influences of Art Tatum, Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner, Chucho Valdés was in the 1970s the leader of the group Irakere in which he innovated by incorporating the Afro-Cuban rhythms of the sacred drums bata in the Cuban popular music 74 years old, still green, superbly lyrical, Archie Shepp is at the initiative of this rare meeting. Together, they dream of new astonishments, tinged with learned interactions, nuanced emotions and unheard-of sounds.
