Following its success at the 2022 Aix-en-Provence Festival, where it was listed as one of the “Best Classical Music Performances of 2022” by the New York Times, Poppea’s Coronation, or Monteverdi’s sharp tale of lust and ambition in ancient Rome, comes to the Royal Opera House of the Château de Versailles under Leonardo García Alarcon’s vitaminized direction to light up Ted Huffman’s staging. Helen Charlston, the famous English mezzo-soprano, will exceptionally play Poppea in this performance. The Coronation of Poppea is a historical subject drawn from the great Latin authors and features anti-heroes, infidels, plotters, villains and murderers.
