The prestigious Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors has chosen the person who will lead the proceedings. This year, the jury will be chaired by Yutaka Sado from Japan, winner of the competition in 1989 and one of the most exciting and charismatic conductors of his generation.
The nomination of this president refers to the strong links that exist between the competition and Asia, where the notoriety of this event is important, particularly in Japan since the 1st Prize won by Seiji Ozawa in 1959 in Besançon. Since then, 6 of the last 15 editions have been won by Japanese.
Yukata Sado will also conduct a concerto for violin and orchestra of Jean Sibelius and the Symphonie Fantastique of Hector Berlioz at Théâtre Ledoux, where he won the Grand Prix, with the Orchestre national d’Ile de France which he has often conducted.
