Michel Portal & Bernard Lubat at Europa Jazz 2012

Especially for Le Lude and Bagnoles de l’Orne, Michel Portal will meet in duo one of his oldest accomplices: Bernard Lubat!

Drummer, pianist, singer, Bernard Lubat is first a great music lesson, of boldness and freedom. He who has played with the biggest names in jazz (Stan Getz, Eddy Louiss, Archie Shepp, René Thomas ….) has fun and plays all the music from Rap to Musette, transforming them all into popular music. His usual and historical meetings (including at the famous festival of Uzeste!) with Michel Portal, and even more so as a duo, have always offered the best of music! The best since it is proposed with the most total generosity!

Vicente Amigo at Jazz à Sète 2014

Vicente Amigo is now one of the great masters of the flamenco guitar. In 2013, he released his seventh album Tierra, surrounded by outstanding musicians, such as members of Dire Straits and the Celtic British band Capercaillie.

Vicente Amigo, considered to be one of the most remarkable and virtuous performers of his generation, began a tireless quest for aesthetic and sonic possibilities of the flamenco guitar. Playing on all the stages of the world with majestic and impeccable technique, his music captures all audiences. Musicians, singers and dancers support the flamenco in a spectacular show.
In 1988, he decided to start his solo career by appearing at the Festival National de Chant of Mines at the Union where he obtained the “”Bordon minero,”” the first prize of guitar competitions. Soon after, he won the International Contest of Extremadura. He obtained his consecration as the first flamenco guitarist in 1989 after unanimously winning the Raymond Montoya Prize in guitar in the 12th National Competition of Flamenco Art of Cordoba.
Since his first album De mi corazon al aire in 1991 (recognized by the awards “”Icaro”” and “”El Ojo Critico””) until the following two Vivencias Imaginadas (1995) and Poeta (1997), prizes have followed, as well as opportunities to play with great musicians such as John Mc Laughlin, David Bowie, Stanley Jordan, Milton Nascimiento, Joao Bosco, Phil Manzanera, Paco de Lucia, Camaron de la Isla, among others. In 1991, Vicente Amigo shares with Paco de Lucia the flamenco representation at the international festival “”Legends of the Guitar.””
His representations in the world are always a big hit before an audience that follows him, fascinated by his incredible talent and his bold research that he performs with an ever surprising natural ability.

Hellfest 2015 Masters of Rock

This year Hellfest will blow its tenth candle for the occasion and is already full. Ten years of metal, death metal, hard rock, hardcore, grindcore, of nucore, doom, stoner, sludge, punk… In short all the families of music called “extreme” from the four corners of the planet will be there.

The opportunity to take a dive in the heart of a universe at times maligned, at times demonized, often ignored in the media. I would simply say a universe primarily unknown.
The film goes in two directions. As Asaf Avidan recently told me when I finished editing his concert at the Folies Bergères. “Some shots for the feeling and some shots for the information.”

“Some shoot for the feeling”

In huge part, the film therefore proposes, by its shape, for viewers feel the quite amazing atmosphere that emerges from such a festival. On the one hand of course due to the content of the music, at times violent, transgressive, hypnotic. On the other by the look of the musicians as well as the public. Through attitudes, the way to move. I have sometimes been captivated by the postures of a bassist, tense muscles, almost motionless, like a fawn before the assault. Or conversely by the energy of a singer who paces the stage, a true lion in a cage. One must have seen this mass of people, improbable outfits, atypical haircuts, moving as one, running in a circle. Tribal dance if so.
A visually strong film with real biases, trying to give a real look at the Hellfest, on this music and what gives it its singularity.

“Some shoot for the information”

Another part of the film is more informative. I would almost say educational. But here rather than a chain of artist interviews in promotion, or religiously listening to a supposedly expert reporter tell us the history of rock, I propose to try to explain what are the different music present at Hellfest through meetings with the musicians themselves, instruments in hand, explaining to us, demonstrating in support, what distinguishes such a current from another.

JOSEPH NADJ – Les Corbeaux – Stage on screen

A conversation between different forms of expression: the saxophone of Akosh Szelevényi, the dancing of Josef Nadj and the black painting that the choreographer lets free.

Les Corbeaux is a conversation between different forms of expression. The saxophone of Akosh Szelevényi, the dancing of Josef Nadj and the black painting let free by the choreographer.
Born from bird watching, it is the precise moment when the raven touches the ground, the mutation of this majestic master of the sky into an earth creature, which particularly inspired this creation.

Swan Lake / Dada Masilo – Stage on screen 2012

At the age of eleven, Dada Masilo fell in love with Swan Lake and made the promise to herself that one day she would create her own version of the ballet. She started working on it when she was 26, and chose with glee to break all the codes of romantic ballet with only one golden rule: to be iconoclastic.

Nothing can stop this young choreographer: she already created ten plays, performed as Carmen and Juliet, and is becoming the new key figure of the South African dance.
This time, all the codes and taboos of the romantic ballet come tumbling down. And yet, the ballet addicts cannot do otherwise than to succumb to this Lake of another kind.
She talks about the society in which she lives, addresses the issue of tolerance and feelings. In this fast and cheerful trance, Dada Masilo who loves telling stories, commits viscerally to openness to others and especially to a dance without borders.
