Johnny Osbourne and the Homegrown Band live at the Philharmonie de Paris 2017 in 4K

Johnny Osbourne’s career began in the late 60’s and reached its peak some fifteen years later. A resounding success assured by albums that became mythical, Thruth and Rights and Folly Ranking in mind. Having become very discreet since the end of the 90s, the Jamaican delighted the fans with a big comeback started in 2012 at the Garance Reggae Festival. Since then, Johnny Osbourne sounds his dancehall around the world and takes advantage of this comeback to develop collaborations, like the song “Independent Music” recorded with Chinese Man. It is this almost patrimonial discography that Johnny Osbourne defends at the Philharmonie de Paris.

Rinaldo at Le Bateau Feu, Dunkerque 2018 in 4K

With Rinaldo, Handel plunges us into the chivalrous world of crusades on a background of romance. With birds, dragons, lightning and thunderbolts, this spectacular work demonstrates the dramatic mastery of the composer on a dreamlike and powerful score. This is a great “machine” opera that the musical director Bertrand Cuiller and the director Claire Dancoisne seize with their twenty-seven performers.

Antonio Zambujo live at Les Bouffes du Nord, Paris 2017

In Portugal, saudade is a national affair, and António Zambujo knows how to sing the shades of this glittering wave to the soul. Carried by a velvet voice of singular beauty, he revolutionizes fado with a style that belongs only to him and a taste of spaces in free flight. Today, António Zambujo is a real phenomenon in Portugal, and his concerts are sold out. When we listen to him, we think of the greatest Brazilian singers – João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso – but also Chet Baker and his cool jazz: it’s not quite fado, but it has all of its the intensity and sweet sensuality. His album Até Pensei Que Fosse Minha, released in Portugal and Brazil in November 2016, was recorded in collaboration with his friend Chico Buarque.

Lisa Hannigan live at Sounds From A Safe Harbour Festival 2017

A regular at the festival, Lisa Hannigan was back this year at Sounds From A Safe Harbor to deliver a unique performance at the Cork Opera House, designed specifically for the event.

Alongside the prestigious Irish national channel’s RTÉ National Symphonic Orchestra, and Aaron Dessner, a multi-instrumentalist from the American group The National, the Irish guitarist, local fame and rising star of folk, had fun revisiting the titles from her discography. With sumptuous arrangements signed, among others, by Aaron’s twin, Bryce Dessner, a member of The National and hyperactive musician whose projects – in contemporary music and classical music – continue to multiply.

The opportunity to rediscover in another light the sublime voice and compositions of Damien Rice’s collaborator and author of film soundtracks (including Neil Jordan’s Ondine, with Colin Farrell) magnified by the brass sections and strings of the orchestra. An exceptional musical moment that only the festival Sounds From A Safe Harbor could create.
