Salif Keita live at Jazz à la Villette 2018

The return to the stage of one of the biggest voices on the African continent, celebrating a career spanning half a century: Salif Keita.

It was in 1968 that Salif Keita made his own revolution: breaking with his princely family who opposed his desire to become a singer (function reserved for the caste of the griots), he settled in Bamako and made his debut in the marketplaces, cafes and discos. Shortly after, he joined the Rail Band of saxophonist Tidiani Koné, whose success in all of West Africa brought his fame. Half a century later, Keita is recognized as a star of African music, for the beauty of his voice, and for his ability to keep the spirit of his Mandinka roots and his traditional instruments in productions of international stature. What a joy to find the great singer, inventor of an Afro-pop who has toured the world, and whose appearances have become rare in recent years, at the heart of an evening that celebrates Africa’s creative dynamism.
