El Salto, Jesús Carmona

In Production – Available for prebuy

Genre: Choreography, Flamenco
Format: HD

JESUS CARMONA, choreographer and principal dancer of the Spanish National Ballet for many years, has won the National Dance Award 2020 with his latest creation El Salto. Co-produced with Sadlers Wells Theatre in London, the Flamenco Biennial in Seville and the Flamenco Festival, this flamenco show is the result of elaborate and in-depth work during three artistic residencies held between March and July 2019 in New York, Miami, London and Madrid, on the theme of “gender in movement”.

“The conception of this show stems from the personal fact that made me question the relationship to masculinity in the 21st century, both from men and women. In the search for answers, I understood more deeply every day what kind of society we live in and what we can do to improve it, because some of the simpler or daily attitudes are perhaps those that need a change. I wanted to stage this personal growth with the thought that art opens the soul to a space of understanding, and with the hope of moving or opening the eyes of the most reluctant viewer to the theme suggested by the show.”

Alcina by Georg Friedrich Haendel

Dramma per musica in three acts
Libretto by Antonio Fanzaglia after Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, arranged by Antonio Marchi
Stage Set by Stefano Poda
Music direction by Diego Fasolis

In the spring of 1735, Handel was in conflict with his rival company and on the verge of bankruptcy. Taking as his libretto Ariosto’s fashionable novel of chivalry, teeming with marvelous episodes, the composer surprised everyone and thereby ensured the resounding success of his opera. Never better than in Alcina has Handel succeeded in giving humanity to his characters, especially in their respective suffering in love. The beauty of the arias in this score has withstood the treatment imposed on this repertoire at the time: the mark of a timeless masterpiece, restored today by Diego Fasolis with the help of a great cast composed of Lenneke Ruiten, Franco Fiagioli and Marina Viotti.

Time, No Changes: Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet

In production – Available for coproduction

In 1962, Miles Davis was one of the major forces in music worldwide, and his artistic influence extended far beyond jazz. In 1964, he found four dynamic and up-and-coming musicians: Wayne Shorter on saxophone, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Tony Williams on drums. Subsequently, all four went on to become musical icons.

This group of younger musicians, orbiting one of the greatest artists of all time, pushed the boundaries of improvised music, and the group came to be known as Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet. Fifty years later, their experimental approach to music is unmatched and may be the most influential force in jazz today.

The documentary focuses on the Quintet’s musical landmarks and unfolds the inspired magic that made it all happen. It is a deep dive into the recordings, live performances, band dynamic, and how it all came to an end in 1968. The film features three of the surviving members — Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Ron Carter — along with other musicians the band has influenced.

This is the story of Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet.
